Engraving FAQ
What's the difference between engraving and etching?
Engraving physically removes material to create a groove or depression in the surface, while etching typically uses chemicals or light marking techniques that don't remove material. Engraving produces deeper, more durable markings suitable for industrial applications and items requiring long-term identification. The depth of engraving can be precisely controlled from 0.1mm to 3mm depending on your needs.
How long does engraving typically last?
Properly executed engraving is permanent and will last the lifetime of the material. The durability depends on the material and environmental conditions. Metal engraving is virtually indestructible under normal conditions, while wood or leather engraving may show slight wear over decades of heavy use. For outdoor applications, we recommend minimum 0.5mm depth engraving on metal surfaces to ensure longevity.
What files do you accept for custom engraving designs?
We accept all common vector formats including DXF, AI, EPS, and PLT for engraving projects. For photo engraving, high-resolution BMP or JPG files (minimum 300dpi) work best. Our design team can assist with file preparation if needed. Important note: All text should be converted to paths/outlines in your design files to ensure proper engraving of fonts.
